The New Hype:
US-Guided Minimally Invasive Carpal Tunnel Release
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most frequent compression neuropathy showing typical clinical symptoms and neurological findings. Conservative treatments or injection therapies may be helpful in mild forms of CTS, showing only short-term improvements; in severe CTS forms or in cases of recurring symptoms after conservative treatment, only complete transection of the transverse carpal ligament has been proven effective. Open surgical or endoscopic release are the preferable treatment options, but ultrasound-guided releases are gaining more and more interest, as they are minimal-invasive, can be performed in an outpatient clinic under local anaesthesia, and allow for an immediate mobilisation of the hand.
